A prayer for the world
I greet Sunday with a smile.
Thank you for this glorious day, Lord
A day of forgiveness, that stretches out like a lake of never ending grace.
A day of promise, of love in action, alive and outstretched.
A day of unity, mending broken lives, where we build bridges of peace and restoration.
A day of celebration, of worship to a living Lord who holds heaven out to us and proclaims life over death
I greet Sunday with a smile.

A prayer of the church
From morning till evening Paul expounded to the Jews, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to
convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. Some were convinced by
what he said, but others disbelieved. And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made
one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
‘Go to this people, and say,
“You will indeed hear but never understand,
and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed;
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and turn, and I would heal them.’
Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”
Acts 28.23-28, esv
We always want to have the last word. These appear to be Paul's last words to the Jewish community, but are they? Luke tells us he went on teaching in Rome for another two years. Time and time again, in earlier chapters of Acts, Paul has washed his hands of the Jews after preaching in their synagogues; but in the next scene there he is again, having another try, giving them another chance. When you want to encourage someone to receive the goods news about Jesus, pray for Paul's gifts of patience and persistence.
